In India, the handmade sector was valued at USD3 million in 2020-21, a fraction of its estimated potential with around 200 million artisans. Despite this vast potential, the handmade sector grapples with significant challenges, notably in marketing linkages and finance. The session will facilitate discourse on strengthening ownership of the culture-based strategy by local communities and private sector to achieve collaborative implementation of the project pipeline. Jajpur district administration is making significant investments that will improve quality and access to infrastructure, regenerate cultural and heritage sites, develop new public spaces, and stimulate creative economy through events, fairs and festivals. These public sector investments must be complemented by public-private-community partnerships (PPCP) or various models of such coalitions for sustainable and timely implementation of interventions to improve wellbeing of artists and creative community.
